5 steps for visually marketing your brand

Instagram is a simple social media tool that is similar to twitter but uses photos rather than words. If you haven’t tried Instagram yet, I think you will be impressed by the power image sharing can offer your brand. With Instagram, your brand can use images to create a unique experience, promote events and connect with prospective and current customers. Here are 5 ways to make the most out of what Instagram has to offer:

Follow, Follow, Follow
Much like Twitter, Pinterest and other social media platforms, Instagram will not be useful to your brand unless you are interacting with other users. This means that you can’t simply upload images. You need to actually engage with others users to understand what they are interested in. The more users you follow, the more you will understand your customer. Once you are sharing common interests, the more likely they are to follow you.

Post Meaningful Image Content
Remember, only intriguing images will drive traffic and generate excitement. Don’t just post anything and everything, but rather post images that tell a story and have meaning to your brand. For instance, I like to share photos of myself using the products of the companies that sponsor my athletic pursuits. If my followers are interested in what I am doing, they will likely be interested in the brands I use, so it is a subtle form of very direct advertising. Find out your audience’s interests then post photos you know will keep them engaged.

Share Across Social Networks
Invite others to view what you are sharing by posting your image link to other social media sites. You can easily post your link to Facebook and Twitter through Instagram or use a social media manager like Hootsuite to post your link to more than several social sites at once.

Make It Rewarding
You need to make following your brand rewarding if you want your fans to stick around. Ask questions and comment on others images to encourage interaction and create a sense of community. When people invest time in your brand, you need to reciprocate. Try featuring your customers in your posts. After all, they are your brand’s greatest advocates, and they let others know that your brand genuinely belongs in their social circle.

Use it to Build Interest in Your Events
If you have a trade show coming up, you can use Instagram is a great way to create hype and gain new customers. You can post images that will help visitor find your booth, show which products will be displayed in your booth, show your attendance at the booth, or show what your display looks like. Lastly, don’t forget to #hashtag on your images so people can track you down.

If you haven’t used Instagram before, now is a great time to get started sending quick messages and photos to your target audience, because Instagram has finally hit the web! I, for one, am relieved, since accessing Instagram from my smartphone wasn’t always convenient.

Your Instagram web feed will function much like it does on your smartphone. You’ll be able to browse the photo updates of the people you follow, like photos by double clicking on them or pressing the like button, and engage with those you follow by commenting on their photos. You can even shrink your browser down to a single column for your feed to look more like your mobile feed.
